There’s a soap box derby happening in a neighborhood near us. Why should you care? Well maybe you shouldn’t, but it sure surprised us to see that Soap Box Derbies are still very popular today! We thought they had gone the way of the black and white television – a part of history that didn’t fit in modern times.
To us, Soap Box Derbies conjure up images of Jimmy Stewart, small towns and mom and pop shops. But in reality, Soap Box Derbies are still very popular throughout the U.S. There are still National Championships and major national companies still sponsor the cars. These races are a slice of Americana that is still being practiced today.
For those of us who have no desire to go out and build our own Soap Box Derby Car, these Balloon Race Cars might are for you! The small replicas of a Soap Box Derby Car measure at 6” long x 3” wide x 2” tall. Just blow up the balloon and watch them go! You and your kids will have hours of fun – the best part is the Balloon Race Car doesn’t require the use (or misuse) of power tools.
