Did you hear?  ABC is now casting for their upcoming seasons of both The Bachelor and The Bachelorette (if you’re interested head over to the casting section of abc.com for details).  We’re curious though, if you decided on a whim to audition, would you be doing it for the reasons of finding love, making money or a little of both? 

We admit finding love is a lot harder than the movies and music make it sound.  Some have found love, some have lost it, and the really very few lucky ones will always have it.  The big question is, in front of a television audience, do you really think you have a chance at finding “the one?”  Stranger things have happened.

Fiki Football - TIME FOR KICKOFF!

The Superbowl used to be about watching two teams going into a battle of gladiator proportions, it was a great game, but back then it was just another day.  The likes of those times are gone.  Now we revere the Superbowl.  Game day has become a holiday all in its own right.  Think about it – the Superbowl is all about the 5 F’s: Family, Friends, Food, Fun and FOOTBALL!  We all eat too much, drink too much and yell way more than we should.  But, unlike other holidays, at least this time we’re yelling at the television screen instead of each other.

There are so many things to entertain us during the Superbowl that you don’t even have to like football to enjoy the day.  The commercials and halftime show are ridiculously over the top, and usually highly entertaining.  The food is usually everything you avoid eating the rest of the year in all its delicious greasy goodness.  The Superbowl is a chance to get together with people you may not always see and of course, if nothing else, it’s always a reason to consume mass quantities of beer… unless you’re underage, in which case that BETTER BE GINGERALE IN THAT CUP!

We get super excited for big sporting events around Perpetual Kid®, although we’ll never hold another super death cage match again in honor of Kimbo Slice’s underground fights.  A moment of silence for Ted please, he was a great man and a fierce competitor… moment over. 

We like to get together with friends and family way before the Superbowl begins and get a little friendly competition going early.  Fiki games are PERFECT for just that!  Take paper football to the next level!  Great for indoors and gets everyone in the spirit of the game.  It’s just one more piece of greatness for the event that is THE SUPERBOWL!

Giant Wine Glass - Is Bigger Always Better?

Is bigger always better?  Last week one of our awesome tech geeks started having problems with his monitor, so we knew it was time to upgrade.  Our techie looked like a kid on Christmas morning when the monitor finally arrived yesterday.  The rule of thumb with computer monitors is the bigger the better, right?  Wrong.  Today our favorite techie came to us with his head hung low and muttering “I just can’t handle it – it’s too big.”  You can imagine our surprise when our techie invited us to sit down at his desk and we realized the monitor really was too big.

This led to a serious identity crisis around the office – are we just not as geeky as we thought we were?  Are we not cool enough to handle a huge monitor?  And why is it such a blow to the ego when we find out that maybe we bit off more than we could chew?  Maybe this was just a fluke and we just need an adjustment period.

I Am Not a Paper Cup - Mmmm Sprinkles...

Jessica Simpson and her weight are a huge topic on the web right now.  While bloggers all over are bashing her more recent pictures in “mom” jeans, celebrities (mostly D-listers) are coming to her defense by asking the press and bloggers to leave her alone.  We don’t actually care if Jessica Simpson is fat or not -- but it got us thinking about how easy it is to put on a few pounds.

With the New Year in progress many people have returned to better eating habits and a fitness routine.  Some people are getting back into the gym, some are getting outside and taking their dogs for extra long walks, some are dancing, some are doing yoga – there are so many options out there now it’s hard not to find at least one you enjoy. 

Even food and drink options have become healthier and it’s not hard to find healthy alternatives to the food we love if we just look a little harder.  When you go into Starbucks now you hear more people ordering skim drinks and regular old coffee instead of mochas.  Even drinks can get in the way of a healthy lifestyle and with the huge cup sizes out there getting a large can put your calories over the limit with just one drink.

Lost in Space Pez Dispenser - Combat Crazy Crushes

Crushes make us all morons.  We say the dumbest things and we do things we would never do.  Cathy was sharing a “lame crush” story today and we wanted to share it with you:

Cathy met her crush at a pretty posh bar and they hit it off right away over Martinis (him – Apple, him – Dirty Gin).  He claimed to be a freelance writer and he was dressed in a nice suit – Cathy was smitten and they set up a date for that weekend.

We won’t bore you with the juicy details but Cathy’s crush emailed an address and time and asked her to dinner.  Following the trusty GPS, Cathy’s Mini Cooper ended up at a run down restaurant  - she was way too dressed up.  Her date was 45 minutes late, without a phone call, and showed up wearing old jeans and a Lost in Space t-shirt.  When they finished dinner and their bill was on the way, her date told her a sob story about how he was really unemployed and living with his parents.  How convenient.  Cathy paid the bill.  Once they were out the door he took off saying thanks for dinner and that was it.  Cathy had just been a free meal.

Even worse… Cathy eagerly waited to hear from him for 2 weeks after.  Pathetic?  Yes.  Normal ‘crush’ behavior?  Yes.  So, since this is what friends do, we’re rubbing Cathy’s crush story in her face by promoting our Lost in Space Giant Pez Dispenser.  Standing at 12” tall this robot comes with its own Pez and, as an added bonus, it makes crazy robot noises and sound effects.  Cathy said she should send this to that old crush.  We stopped her before she finished taping the box – we don’t want her wasting her money on his behalf again!

Glass Water Bottles - Go Guilt Free!

When we first heard about NBC banning the PETA Superbowl ad, we assumed it was too graphic or too preachy – so, of course, the first thing we did was find the video on YouTube.  It’s not graphic or preachy; it’s apparently just too “sexy”.  It shows a very nice looking lady playing with her vegetarian food.  Hmm… you’re rushing over to watch that video now aren’t you?  WELL AT LEAST FINISH READING THIS POST BEFORE YOU DO!

We expected the ad to make non-vegetarians feel bad about their eating habits.  We were pleasantly surprised when we finished the video feeling guilt free.  Guilt advertising is a slippery slope but at the same time it seems to work.  Take the landfill commercial for water bottles… haven’t seen it?  Probably better that you haven’t – at least you can hold your head up high while you walk around with your non-reusable plastic water bottle.  The rest of us felt compelled to run out and buy reusable environmentally friendly water bottles; we weren’t going to let others judge us!  The whole point of those commercials is to rid us of our guilt.  Now when those landfill commercials come on, we feel good because we are helping the environment.

Clocky - Morning Myrtle's Morning Problem

We have a favorite staffer who is notorious for not being a morning person.  To hide her identity we’ll call this person Morning Myrtle.  Now every morning, we’re not sure how, Morning Myrtle manages to get in here on time but we’re still trying to figure out how - we’re certain she’s still asleep when she pulls into the parking lot.

Morning Myrtle’s birthday is in a couple of days and we couldn’t decide on what to get her.  We needed something to help with Morning Myrtle’s morning problem but also something we could giggle at.

Clocky!  Of course!  We have a wide selection of different crazy alarm clocks but Clocky is one of our favorites!  Set the alarm and place Clocky on your nightstand, then in the morning you have one chance to hit snooze before Clocky will take off running across the floor.  You’ll have no choice but to get out of bed to turn off the run-away alarm clock.  There is no better motivation to get up in the morning than an annoying alarm clock.

Now we just have to hope that the real Morning Myrtle doesn’t read this before her birthday!

Cool Shooters - A Party Favorite

This weekend a bunch of us went to a party so of course we had to bring along some Perpetual Kid® goodies to play with.  The biggest hit of the night were the Cool Shooters.  However we gained some knowledge we didn’t have before… so now we’re sharing:

1) Once handed the cool shooter with the shot inside – DRINK FAST THAT THING IS COLD!

2) Cool Shooters can be used when putting a shot into a mixer “on the rocks” – a pseudo Depth Charge, if you will.  Just forgo the regular ice and drop in that cool shooter prefilled with your favorite liquor – DONE.

3) This is not a muti-time reusable shot glass – it is ice – it will melt.  Don’t see how many times you can drink out of it or if you do make sure there is a large bet going… (we took home a nice $50 – not too shabby when it wasn’t even our party!)

4) They take a while to freeze – make sure they are frozen before pouring liquor into them.  (Sorry about that white carpet by the way!)

5) They are just as fun with non-alcoholic drinks!

We think you should pick up a few of these for your next party.  It was too much fun and something unique you don’t see at every other get-together!

We don’t mean to laugh, but one of our Perpetual Kid® staffers just spilled coffee down the front of her shirt.  We can all be klutzes so we tried not to laugh, but this coffee spill involved a giant pencil, a finger monster and a rolling office chair, not necessarily in that order – use your own imagination.

That made it easy enough for us to figure out what product we would highlight today.  The “We Are Happy to Serve You” Ceramic Coffee Mug is one of our all time favorite products.  It’s a mix of a perfect sized coffee mug with our favorite paper cup of the North East.  Maybe if the staffer hadn’t been using a flimsy paper cup she’d still have a clean shirt on and wouldn’t still be getting laughed at.

January is such a great month – filled with the feeling of a fresh start – a new year – an unknown but bright future.
